TWiT “on life support”

“No TWiT Today” | digg story

I’ll decide what happens to TWiT, the show, when I come back, but at this point it looks like it’s on life support and the heart monitor is flatlining.

This Week in Tech (TWiT)
is a podcast (or as Leo Laporte would call it, a “netcast“) that features a roundtable discussion of latest news in technology. Unfortunately, Leo feels he may end it due to lack of interest from the original cast.

TWiT is one of the better (if not the best) podcasts out there. Leo managed to recreate the magic of “Tech TV” with fellow alumni Patrick Norton, John C. Dvorak, Kevin Rose, Robert Heron, and Roger Chang (along with many, many members of the tech community). The “Tech TV” faithful grew into the TWiT Army as we downloaded the podcast week after week. TWiT dominated the podcast charts, and it spawned many other podcasts (pushing Leo to create the TWiT Network).

With the success of TWiT, the usual participants branched off onto other projects: Kevin Rose has Digg.com and “Diggnation“; Patrick Norton, Robert Heron, and Roger Chang have “DL.TV“; and John C. Dvorak has “Cranky Geeks“. Leo himself is producing his own podcasts “KFI Tech Guy” and “The Laporte Report“, along with many more podcasts available on the TWiT Network.

Due to the success of their other projects, it looks as if the participants themselves are unable to commit to the podcast that started it all. Leo is ready to produce it each week, but he can’t help it if the others are too busy. It doesn’t need to have all the original members for it to be successful, and the regulars can return as special guests anytime.
