Cards one win from title after thriller (MLB.com)
They call the new Busch Stadium “Baseball Heaven”. It seems all of St Louis showed up at the pearly gates, and David Eckstein led the way. Eck was 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 3 doubles, including the game-winner in the bottom of the 8th.
I happened to fall asleep during the bottom of the 6th with Detroit leading 3-2. CL woke me up to say we tied it up, then again when we took the lead at 4-3. I vaguely remember mumbling something and drifting back to sleep. I officially woke up when Brandon Inge drove in Pudge Rodriguez to tie the game at 4 apiece. “Maybe I should just go back to sleep,” I thought to myself.

I decided to stay up just in time to see Eckstein hit a liner that just grazed the tip of Craig Monroe’s glove, then watched as Adam Wainwright shut down the heart of the Tigers’ lineup. Staying up late to watch the Cardinals play these days is exhausting, but it is certainly worth it.
